Green Hornets bring the Hammer!

On an afternoon featuring cloudy skies, drizzling rains and chilly temperatures it was the Grosse Pointe Green Hornets that provided the heat.  Despite being short handed playing seven vs. eight all game, it was the Hive who carried the play.

Great team work by all Hornets resulted on goaler Imran not having to make a save the entire first half of play!  Determined midfield work by Olivia, Katie and Austin kept the ball deep in the opponents end where striker Liam had a few nice chances to score.  Deep ball possession play allowed the Hornets to push their defense up to and even past midfield.  Strong rotation and support between defenders Sylvia and Kristina stopped all counter attacks by the Pierce-Trombly foes, and quickly got the ball back into the other team's end.

The Green Hornets stingers really came out after halftime.  Relentless pressure to the net resulted in a goal mouth scramble with Olivia potting in a shot from five yards out.  The Pierce-Trombly effort increased as they sought the equalizing goal.  Several great efforts by all Hornet players preserved a thrilling victory.  It was great to see lots of smiles on both sides of the hand shake line and to see the teams share snacks after the contest.  It is nice to play with your friends.

Hornet parents and coaches are VERY proud of the sixty minute effort made by all Green Hornets.  Even though they were outnumbered and had no substitutions, this scrappy group played hard and played as a team.  What a great day for a good group of friends.
